Richard Leader is President and Chief Investment Officer of First Houston Capital.

He is actively involved in all aspects of stock selection and portfolio design for clients of the firm.

Richard began his career in 1976 with Citibank’s Investment Management Group in New York City. He was transferred to Houston in 1980 and has been here ever since. Throughout a succession of increasingly responsible positions, Richard has developed a thorough knowledge of economics, securities analysis and portfolio management. He writes a weekly newsletter, The Leader Market Letter, which details his views.

Richard received his undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University, followed by an MBA from Vanderbilt University. He also earned his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) in 1981 following a three-year program of study and testing.

Richard is active in BraeBurn Country Club, the Houston Entrepreneur’s Forum and the Spring Branch ISD Mentor program. He┬áhas also been on the Board of the Woodland Hollow Civic Association, the Houston Safari Club and is past President of the Wake Forest Alumni Association/Houston Chapter.

James (Jim) Behrmann is Senior Vice President with First Houston Capital. He participates in all aspects of First Houston’s operations including client services, investment selection, and portfolio design. His specialization is fixed income investing.

Jim has over 30 years of experience in the investment management field. He began his career with St. Louis Union Trust Company as an investment analyst and rose to the position of Director of Quantitative System/Assistant Director of Research. From there he went on to manage a portion of the Bridgestone Firestone Corporation’s pension fund in Akron, Ohio.

In 1985, Jim moved to Houston to manage several publicly traded mutual funds for Van Kampen American Capital. Principal among his management responsibilities were the Harbor Fund and the American Capital Convertible Securities Fund, both dedicated to the investing in convertible bonds. In 1998, Jim joined the Investment Management Company, USAA Insurance. There he had responsibility for investing in small capitalization companies including the USAA Small Capitalization Stock Mutual Fund.

More recently, Jim served as adjunct Professor of Finance in the School of Business for both St. Mary’s University and The University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas.

Jim has an undergraduate degree and an MBA from Southern Illinois University, and a Master of Science Degree in Business from Washington D.C.’s George Washington University. Jim is married to Judith Behrmann and they have two children.

Carrie Leader is First Houston Capital’s Director of Human Resources. Her professional training is in education. She graduated summa cum laude with her masters degree in education from the University of Texas at Austin.

Carrie has been married to Richard Leader for twenty-two years.

Judith Pelser Vice President of Operations

Vice President of Operations

Judith Pelser is Vice President of Operations at First Houston Capital. She manages the administration and execution of daily operational activities, including account reconciliation, financial reporting, client services, and back office functions.

Prior to joining First Houston Capital, Mrs. Pelser was an Associate in Accounting and Public Relations at Citibank in London. She was responsible for providing support to Corporate Affairs Senior Management and performed administrative and operational activities. She also prepared financial reports and helped coordinate large events for the group.

Originally from South Africa, Judith and her husband moved to the States in 2003.
